Galbraith Grassroots Race Series – FAQs
Who Can Race?
Who can race?
The Galbraith Grassroots Race Series is open to all riders ages 5 to 18.
You do not need to be a GGR team member to participate. Galbraith Gravity Racing (GGR) simply hosts and organizes the series, and everyone is welcome.
If your kid rides a bike, they can race.
Registration and Deadlines
Do I need to register in advance?
Yes. All racers register online before race day. Registration typically closes at 9:00 PM the night before each race.
Can I register the day of the race?
No day-of registration. Please sign up ahead of time.
Is there a series pass?
Yes. A season pass is available and offers a discounted rate. Use code SEASONPASS before it expires.
Plate Pickup and Registration
Where is plate pickup and registration?
For North Side races, registration and plate pickup are typically located just below SST Rock Roll, near the intersection of Road 1200 and The Old Up.
For South Side races, registration is set up along the main climb to the start. If you are riding up, you will naturally pass right by it.
When will the final map be sent out?
We send the final race map after registration closes the night before the race. This allows for any last-minute adjustments.
When should I be there?
Try to be at the registration tent at least 30 minutes prior to the start of the race
Do I need to save my race plate?
Race plates are handed out fresh each race, so need
Race Practice
What about practice laps?
All practice has to be complete 30 minutes prior to the start of the race. We have marshals on course taping etc, so use caution.
Course closes to practice 30 prior to the first racer dropping and will open on completion.
Race Schedule and Format
How many races are in the series?
There are 6 races held between March and May, typically on Saturdays.
What time do races start?
Most categories start around 12:00 PM. Check-in and staging happen earlier.
What happens if a race is canceled?
We plan a make-up date, usually in mid-May.
Categories and Divisions
What categories are available?
Riders register by age and gender in youth divisions. There is also a collegiate category, a parent category for U11 support, and a coach or pro category.
What skill levels are available?
CAT 3 includes ride-arounds and developing lines.
CAT 1 and 2 combined includes more advanced lines.
Licenses and Requirements
Do racers need a USAC license?
Yes. Youth racers need a USAC license. Adults riding on course may need a USAC day license.
Parents and On Course Support
Can parents ride with their kids?
Yes, but only for U11 racers, which includes riders with a race age of 10 and under.
Parents must register in the parent category and ride in a support role only. No pacing or interference.
Can parents ride with older racers?
No. Riders age 11 and older race independently.
Why is parent access limited to U11?
This helps maintain a safe race environment and ensures fair competition.

Pro’s race free?
Yes - any pro entry is free, just need to follow a grom and give some stoke.
Results and Timing
Where can I see results?
We use live timing, so you can follow along in real time during the race.
Volunteers
How do I volunteer?
Sign up through BikeReg using the free volunteer option. These events depend on volunteers, and we appreciate the help.
What to Expect on Race Day
How does the race work?
Plan on being to teh registration with at least 30 minutes to get up to the start gate.
Riders pedal to the start and complete a timed downhill run.
There is a lot of cheering, learning, and community throughout the day. Afterward, we gather for results and hanging out.
Racers drop youngest category to oldest category, generally with faster riders leading the age group. Cat 3 followed by Cat 2 followed by Cat 1/Pro
Apres
Where is apres held?
Typically at or near the bottom of the course in an open gathering area.
Who is apres for?
We plan food for racers and volunteers first. If there are leftovers, we are happy to share.
Equipment and Safety
What bike do I need?
Any safe, well-maintained mountain bike. Trail and enduro bikes work great.
What safety gear is required?
A full-face helmet is required. Additional gear like knee pads and gloves is strongly recommended.
